National Safety Month 2021

This month marks the 25th anniversary of National Safety Month! National Safety Month is observed annually during the month of June to help raise awareness of keeping each other safe in the workplace. With the pandemic ongoing, it is crucial to continue to be safe as people return to the office.

As the pandemic continues, employers are playing an important role in the return to physical workspaces. They now need to address any COVID-19 safety concerns employees might have and they also need to build trust. Mental health also very important nowadays as many people are still understandably worried about the COVID-19 virus and its variants. Even with vaccines rolling out, not everyone has had a chance to get vaccinated. This leaves a lot of people on edge and fearful of leaving the safety of their own home. Organizations now need to focus not just on physical safety, but psychological safety of its employees as well.

It is vital for employers to make their employees feel safe on the job. Many companies, including our own, are taking the right precautions in continuing to keep everyone safe. The measures put in place last year should still be put in place today, including practicing social distancing, putting up barriers, sanitizing desks and bathrooms every day and providing the proper PPE equipment. If you feel unsafe, be sure to let your supervisor know so that they can help resolve the issue. All these actions should help with employee morale and help everyone feel safe returning to the workplace.

With vaccines being made more widely available, hopefully this pandemic will be over soon. In the meantime, continue to practice safety measures to make sure everyone is safe. If you feel you are having mental health issues because of the workplace, please consult a friend or a medical professional.
