National Doctors’ Day

Last year was definitely a rough one for everybody across the globe. But probably no one had it harder than doctors. Doctors who are just doing their job to save lives in the ongoing fight against COVID-19. They should be thanked every day for the great work they have done but this day especially. That is because March 30th is National Doctors’ Day! This day marks an annual observance aimed at appreciating the incredible work of physicians and the contributions to the communities they live in.

The first Doctors’ Day started on March 30th, 1933 in Winder, Georgia. The initial celebration was started by Eudora Brown Almond, the wife of a prominent Georgian doctor who wanted to involve mailing greeting cards to doctors and placing flowers on deceased doctors’ graves. The flowers she placed on the graves of these physicians were red carnations. In fact these flowers are still used today in honor of celebrating National Doctors’ Day. Mrs. Almond choose March 30th as the day of celebration because its marks when Dr. Crawford W. Long used an ether anesthetic for the first-time during surgery in 1842.

Ever since then, National Doctors’ Day has been honored every year on this day. Today we continue to celebrate advancements in the medical field and thank doctors everywhere who have spent so much time honing their skills in their field of expertise. The best part is you do not need to do anything special to show you care. Simply let your favorite doctor know that you appreciate their hard work by saying thank you or sending a card or a bouquet of red carnations.

Here we wanted to say thank you to all the doctors who work hard everyday to help us lead healthy lives. Share your story on social media and say thank you today using the hashtag #NationalDoctorsDay!
