As mentioned in our previous blog, Blood Flow Restriction Training (BFRT) can bridge the gap between early rehabilitation and heavy lifting again post-surgery. You can get all the benefits of heavy lifting with BFRT without the need to use heavy weights. This, in turn, reduces the risk of injury. There are many products that can help you practice BFRT. Below we’ve detailed a couple of our favorites:
Smart Cuffs
Smart Cuffs is a complete BFRT set that is exclusively designed for clinics. Physical therapists and medical professionals can take advantage of Smart cuffs and all the unique features it offers. The entire package comes with everything clinics would need, different cuffs to cover a lot of sizes, a sphygmomanometer and a Doppler to measure limb occlusion pressure. You can use Smart Cuffs to allow patients to begin post-surgical rehab sooner than previously done. Not only that but Smart Cuffs goes beyond just rehab for patients. They are also beneficial to those who are immobile or mobility-restricted, bed ridden, casted, the elderly, athletes in active recovery and those suffering from decreased joint/tissue loads. If you don’t know how Smart Cuffs work or what to do with them, there are certification courses that are made available on a regular basis nationally and internationally.
B-STRONG
If you don’t want a complete clinical set, B-STRONG might be your better option. Unlike Smart Cuffs, B-STRONG bands come with different sets containing different sizes to choose from to fit your needs. Like Smart Cuffs, B-STRONG bands are placed and inflated around the upper portion of the arms and/or legs to safely slow the flow of blood in the limb. Doing low intensity workouts with B-STRONG allows users to get the maximum benefits without the wear and tear of using heavy weights to train. This strong fatigue results in bigger muscle and strength gains compared to more intensive exercises using heavy weights. B-STRONG bands are available in 4 sizes that are suitable for most patients or clients.
Whichever set of equipment you choose, you will see the benefits BFRT has to offer. If you think BFRT is right for you, please contact your doctor or specialist.
