When you think ultrasound, you normally think of going to the doctor and them using a big expensive machine. More than 4 billion people around the world don’t have access to this medical imaging but could benefit from it if they had it. Now doctors in more impoverished areas can, with the help of Butterfly iQ. Butterfly iQ is a handheld ultrasound device that connects to an iPhone app to tell you how your baby is doing. This revolutionary technology changes the dynamic of how doctor’s work. Instead of using an expensive $100,000 machine that is somewhat stationary, they can now use a $2,000 machine that can be used anywhere. The implications are endless, as medical professionals can now travel to your home to do an ultrasound and this device can go to more countries who usually can’t afford it otherwise.

Virtual Reality Rehab

It turns out virtual reality is not just used for video games anymore. It can also be applied to neurological rehab. Isabel Van de Keer, the founder and CEO of Immersive Rehab, has found a way to give neurological rehab patients a better experience by expanding the range and type of exercises patients can try. Using VR enables more opportunities to harness and repair the neural pathways of the brain. Thus, making a less frustrating experience for more and more rehab patients.

Drone Delivered Medical Supplies

Need medical supplies fast and can’t make it over to another hospital? Luckily for you, there is now an implementation of drones delivering medical supplies. Since March of 2019, UPS has been partnering with Google to have drones deliver essential medical supplies to areas that need it. Drones have significantly shortened the amount of time it takes to deliver medical samples including blood or tissue between two branches of a hospitals. They can even deliver to rural areas that don’t have the same amount of resources that cities do. These trial programs have changed the way medical professionals save lives.

It is amazing how far medical advancements in technology have come. Medical professionals are now able to deliver better experiences to patients thanks to the advancements in technology.
